The ASEAN Secretariat, together with the Secretary-General of ASEAN, functions as the central coordinating body to support effective decision-making within and among ASEAN institutions. Each Member State designates a Permanent Representative to maintain communication with the Secretary-General and the ASEAN Secretariat.
ASEAN continuously works to strengthen friendly relations and mutually advantageous cooperation with external partners. These partners include governments, sub-regional and regional organizations, international institutions, human rights groups, and non-ASEAN ambassadors to ASEAN.
The roadmap for building the ASEAN Community (2009–2015) was officially endorsed in 2009. This community rests on three key pillars:
The ASEAN Community was formally launched in 2015. Following this milestone, ASEAN introduced its post-2015 vision titled ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together, aimed at promoting deeper integration and collective progress among member states.
