SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's basketball team dominated the College of Biblical Studies in their season opener, winning 97-30 at the Convocation Center. A 43-6 first-half scoring run set the tone early, as the Roadrunners displayed overwhelming control from the start.
The team scored 56 points in the first period while allowing just 18 points to the Ambassadors (1-4). This defensive effort set a new school record for the fewest points allowed in a game.
The Roadrunners started with a half-court man defense but quickly shifted to full-court pressure, trapping the ball and forcing tough plays for their opponents. Their aggressive defense led to multiple steals and easy scoring opportunities.
“We needed to come out, play well and dominate the game,” said head coach Austin Claunch. “It’s not about who it’s against, it’s about this group being able to do it.”
The game was largely decided by an early 18-0 run, leaving the Ambassadors struggling to keep pace before halftime.
The combination of relentless defensive pressure and smooth offensive execution allowed the Roadrunners to control the match from start to finish, finishing with a commanding victory in their home opener.
