Everton Blair Jr. won the special contest held for Georgia's 13th Congressional District. Blair prevailed over challenger Marcye Scott in the special vote for the House of Representatives seat. Marcye Scott is the child of late Representative David Scott.
Scott was unable to complete her father's unexpired term in the House of Representatives. She lost the runoff matchup to Blair. With this campaign win in Georgia's 13th Congressional District, Everton Blair Jr. stands as the second Black openly gay official elected to Congress.
