Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has gone with Reece Walsh ahead of James Tedesco at fullback for Australia's Rugby League World Cup opener. Walters explained his reasoning for leaving Tedesco out, with reports connecting Tedesco's NRL grand final performance to the call.
The decision has drawn attention across the rugby league community, given Tedesco's status among the best in the position. It is one of the more debated picks heading into the tournament.
Jack Preston was also named in the squad, getting his first Kangaroos selection. Preston's inclusion strengthens the group as Australia gets set for the World Cup campaign.
