TotalEnergies is transforming its historic Grandpuits site into a zero-crude platform, set to be a flagship of the circular economy by mid-2025.
The Grandpuits-Gargenville site includes the Grandpuits refinery (Seine-et-Marne), operating since 1966, and the Gargenville oil depot (Yvelines). In September 2020, TotalEnergies announced the plan to convert the refinery into a zero-crude platform.
This ambitious project involves an investment of over €500 million and focuses on advancing biomass processing, renewable energies, and the circular economy.
One key objective is to transform the Grandpuits refinery into a biorefinery with a processing capacity of 400,000 metric tons per year, beginning operations in mid-2025.
The biorefinery will process more than 75% waste and residues, emphasizing sustainability in production.
A partnership announced in September 2022 with SARIA will secure the supply of feedstock such as used cooking oils and animal fats eligible for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production.
The project aligns with TotalEnergies' strategy toward carbon neutrality in collaboration with society through biofuel production and plastic waste recycling.
