The Toronto Maple Leafs are actively surveying the trade market for forwards Nick Robertson and David Kampf, according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.
Robertson has recorded two goals and four points across 10 games this season. His usage has varied significantly, ranging from healthy scratches to assignments on the top line. In Wednesday’s heavy defeat to the Columbus Blue Jackets, he logged a season-high 17:22 of ice time, skating alongside Auston Matthews and Bobby McMann as William Nylander was sidelined due to injury.
Kampf began the season in the AHL after being placed on waivers and has earned one assist in four games with the Toronto Marlies. The 30-year-old veteran carries a $2.4 million cap hit through next season, while costing the Maple Leafs $1.25 million against the cap while playing in the AHL.
“We know that GM Brad Treliving continues to explore the idea of moving both David Kampf and Nick Robertson,” said Dreger on Thursday’s edition of Insider Trading. “For Kampf, who’s with the American Hockey League team, it’s mainly about shedding salary. As for Robertson, he’s seen time in multiple roles — top-six, bottom-six, press box — and is still viewed as a developing player. The Leafs are in no rush to trade him but would consider it for the right return, ideally a player of comparable age.”
The Maple Leafs remain open to trade discussions involving Robertson and Kampf, balancing immediate financial considerations with long-term roster planning.
Author’s summary: Toronto is weighing trade options for Robertson and Kampf, targeting flexibility on the salary cap while keeping potential for future talent development.
