Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the WTA Finals championship match in Riyadh after a tense three-set victory over Amanda Anisimova. She will now face Elena Rybakina as both players compete for their first season-ending title and a record payout.
Elena Rybakina reached the year-end final for the first time after defeating Jessica Pegula with a comeback score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-3—her tenth consecutive match win. Later, Sabalenka followed suit, overcoming Anisimova 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in another hard-fought semifinal.
Each semifinal was finely balanced until decisive late-game runs. Rybakina captured four of the last five games against Pegula, while Sabalenka surged with four straight games to overcome Anisimova’s challenge.
Runner-up in the 2022 final, Sabalenka becomes only the third world No. 1 in a decade to reach the WTA Finals title match, joining Angelique Kerber (2016) and Ashleigh Barty (2019).
