Under a calm morning sky, the flags of the United Nations and the State of Qatar were raised together in Doha on Sunday, ahead of the Second World Summit for Social Development.
The event marked the UN’s formal takeover of the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) as the location where global leaders will gather to renew the social development agenda. The ceremony took place at the expansive conference centre and was attended by senior officials from both Qatar and the United Nations.
“This moment formally marks the handover of this landmark facility to the United Nations. The QNCC is now transformed into a space where the global community will gather to advance solutions and renew hope.”
These words were spoken by Li Junhua, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, highlighting the joint dedication to cooperation and progress.

Ahmad Hassen Al-Hamadi, Secretary General of Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed the country’s support for the summit and its role in facilitating global dialogue.
