Jessica Pegula advanced from the Stefanie Graf Group by defeating Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-3, earning the No. 2 seed behind Aryna Sabalenka and adding a significant achievement to her strong season.
On Thursday, Pegula played with clear focus, aware of the stakes in her final round-robin match at the WTA Finals. Facing a visibly unwell Jasmine Paolini, who had already been eliminated from contention, Pegula efficiently closed out the match in 63 minutes, finishing with a decisive break.
Following Pegula’s victory, it was confirmed that she secured the No. 2 position behind Aryna Sabalenka, who won her match against Coco Gauff in straight sets to claim the top spot in the group.
“I finally got straight sets win for the first time in a few months,” Pegula said. “That always feels really good, but I thought I served really well and just played solid today. I was aggressive when I needed to be. There wasn’t much negative today.”
This marked Pegula's first straight sets victory since beating Ajla Tomljanovic in the second round in Beijing late September, snapping a stretch of eight consecutive matches decided in three sets.
Jessica Pegula’s confident performance sealed her spot in the WTA Finals semifinals with a clean victory, highlighting her solid play and competitiveness in a key event.
