Duffer Brothers Respond to Bullying Claims at ‘Stranger Things’ Premiere

Director and executive producer Shawn Levy addressed recent allegations concerning star Millie Bobby Brown accusing co-star David Harbour of bullying on the set of Stranger Things. He described some of the circulating stories as “wildly inaccurate.”

The final season press tour for Stranger Things began Monday, yet Netflix prefers to avoid discussions about the viral bullying claims. Despite the controversy, Brown and Harbour appeared cheerful together at the season five world premiere in Los Angeles on Thursday evening.

Comments from the Creators

When questioned about the accusations, co-creator Ross Duffer said to The Hollywood Reporter while beside his brother Matt Duffer:

“Obviously, you understand I can’t get into personal on-set matters, but I will say we’ve been doing this for 10 years with this cast, and at this point they’re family and we deeply care about them. So, you know, nothing matters more than just having a set where everyone feels safe and happy.”

Shawn Levy on Set Safety

At the premiere, Levy was asked how the production addresses bullying complaints and ensures a respectful work environment. He responded:

“At the end of the day, that’s the job. You have to create a respectful workplace where everyone feels comfortable and safe, and so we did everything to build that environment. And we’re proud of the fact that we did so.”

Summary

The Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy emphasize their long-standing respectful relationships with the cast and their commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive set environment amid recent bullying allegations.
