Presiding Bishop Gérald Caussé was announced on Thursday as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Now-Elder Caussé, 62, has served as the church’s presiding bishop for the past 11 years. He was called to the apostleship and ordained the same day by President Dallin H. Oaks along with members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
"I've always had a testimony of Jesus Christ," Elder Caussé said. "He's always been in the center of my life. And I know he's our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That's the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives."
Elder Caussé is originally from Bordeaux, France. He is the third presiding bishop born outside the United States and the first whose native language is not English. His previous roles include serving as a counselor in the Presiding Bishopric and as a General Authority Seventy.
His calling reflects both his longstanding dedication and international roots within the church’s leadership.
