Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla announced the tragic passing of their baby daughter on Friday.
Our little angel we love you forever & you're with us always. Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we're going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.
Vesia expressed gratitude toward the Dodgers organization for their understanding and support, stating their baseball family has been essential during this difficult time.
He also thanked Dodger Nation, the Blue Jays organization, and all baseball fans for their overwhelming messages, comments, and posts, which brought the family much comfort.
In addition, the couple extended thanks to Cedars Sinai and all the medical staff who cared for Kayla and their daughter Sterling, praising every person they encountered as incredibly supportive.
Vesia shared a black and white photo showing baby Sterling's hand resting on top of the couple’s hands. The cause of death has not been disclosed. He had been away from the Dodgers since October 23 after the team revealed they were handling a "deeply personal matter" involving Kayla, who was in her third trimester.
