Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux from Edmonton has declared his intention to resign his seat in the House of Commons. This move follows recent political shifts, including Chris d'Entremont crossing the floor to join the Liberals earlier this week.
Jeneroux’s resignation could strengthen the Liberals’ position in passing the federal budget without needing support from other parties. However, he did not specify when he will officially leave or whether he plans to participate in upcoming budget-related votes.
Jeneroux expressed his wish for one final chance to address the House.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre announced on X that Jeneroux plans to resign in the spring.
The next vote on the Bloc Québécois amendment is scheduled for Friday, with the main budget motion set for November. Should Jeneroux resign, the Conservative caucus would decrease to 142 seats, contrasted with 22 for the Bloc Québécois, 7 for the NDP, and 1 for the Greens.
Matt Jeneroux’s resignation announcement signals a potential shift in parliamentary dynamics, particularly affecting the Liberal government's ability to secure budget approval.
