Trade negotiations between New Zealand and the Cook Islands have reached an impasse. The New Zealand Government has suspended payments to the Cook Islands following agreements made between the Cook Islands and China, which violated the 2021 bilateral agreement.
International relations expert Stephen Hoadley discussed the implications of this suspension with Mike Hosking. He warned that halting financial support may push the Cook Islands closer to China’s influence.
