A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for southeastern Kentucky as snow showers and severe wind chills approach to start the work week.
This morning will bring scattered rain showers with potential stronger storms due to a cold front crossing the state. Winds will gain strength and temperatures will rapidly fall into the 30s from northwest to southeast by afternoon.
By early evening, gusty rain showers will combine with snow as cold air follows the front. Snowfall and light flurries are expected tonight mainly in central and eastern Kentucky, accumulating mostly on grass and elevated surfaces.
Temperatures will drop into the 20s, causing icy spots on bridges and overpasses. Wind chills will make it feel like the teens by Monday morning.
A low-pressure system will bring widespread snow showers and snow squalls across central and eastern Kentucky. Thunder accompanied by snow—known as ‘thundersnow’—is possible in some locations.
Most areas will have light snow accumulation, but heavy bursts may reduce visibility and create slippery road conditions. Highs will remain near or below freezing, with strong winds lowering the perceived temperature to the upper teens or low 20s.
Please drive carefully during this wintry weather.
