Swedish Engineering Company Highlights China as Key Market

At the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, Swedish engineering and service company Alfa Laval reaffirmed its strong commitment to China, recognizing it as the firm’s primary market.

China as a Strategic Growth Driver

CEO Tom Erixon explained that China is essential to Alfa Laval’s growth and the global energy transition. He emphasized the importance of shared experiences among the team to better understand this critical market.

“Sometimes it’s important that we, as a team, experience the same thing. It’s very much a learning experience from what is for us the most important market in the world, China,” said Tom Erixon.

Opportunities through the CIIE

CFO Fredrik Ekstrom underlined how the expo provides valuable opportunities to engage with officials, clients, and partners, while also deepening the company’s understanding of China’s evolving business landscape.

“I think it’s a mix of meeting government officials, it’s meeting our customers, and of course, it’s expanding our view of what’s happening in China at the same time because when you look around, you really get a true sense of how important China is as a market for the rest of the world and why it’s important for us to be here as well. In fact, it’s 20 percent of our turnover. But more importantly, we look at it as a future market because China leads the global energy transition right now,” said Fredrik Ekstrom.

Role of China’s Five-Year Plans

Erixon also pointed out that China’s Five-Year Plans serve as a useful framework guiding Alfa Laval’s long-term corporate strategy and market positioning.

He described the plans as “very predictive of what’s actually going to happen.”

Author’s Summary

Alfa Laval underscores China’s key role in its global strategy, emphasizing collaboration, innovation, and alignment with the country’s forward-looking energy agenda.
