The fourth Twenty20 International between New Zealand and the West Indies was called off due to persistent rain on Monday, after fewer than seven overs were bowled at Saxton Oval in Nelson.
West Indies reached 38 for 1 in 6.3 overs before the second rain interruption made further play impossible. After being sent in to bat, opener Alick Athanaze scored 21 before being caught by Daryl Mitchell off James Neesham’s bowling. Amir Jangoo remained unbeaten on 12, while captain Shai Hope was on 3 not out.
“The match came to a premature end as rain continued throughout the evening, leaving the series poised at 2-1 in favor of New Zealand.”
New Zealand, having lost the opening game at Auckland’s Eden Park by seven runs, bounced back to win the next two encounters — the second at the same venue by three runs and the third in Nelson by nine runs. The deciding fifth match is scheduled for Thursday in Dunedin.
The fourth T20I in Nelson was abandoned as rain halted play after just 6.3 overs, leaving New Zealand ahead 2–1, with the series finale set for Dunedin.
