Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham is quickly showing why he was selected as the first overall pick, with NBA great Steve Nash praising one particular skill that distinguishes him: his passing.
Cunningham is averaging 25.6 points, 9.7 assists, and 4.8 rebounds over nine games, helping the Pistons lead the Eastern Conference with a 7-2 record.
“I actually want to give a nod to Cade’s passing,” Nash said. “We always knew he’s a playmaker who can make plays for others and improve his teammates, but I feel like he’s taken it to another level.”
“He’s making early passes, late passes, short passes, long passes ahead. He’s making the corner pass over the top. He’s got every type of pass in his bag now, and it’s impressive to see him command the game; his size also means you can’t rush him.”
Cunningham's playmaking has been crucial in the Pistons’ strong start this season and last, a significant turnaround from their challenging 14-68 record in 2023-24. He’s shooting 46.6% from the field, contributing heavily to the team’s success.
Steve Nash emphasizes Cade Cunningham’s exceptional passing as a critical skill elevating both his game and the Pistons’ performance this season.
