Indra Group, a world leader in information technology, aerospace, defence and mobility systems, and EDGE, a leading advanced technology and defence group, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as a preliminary step towards a new joint venture in Spain. The venture would focus on the development, production, and maintenance of loitering munitions and smart weapons for European markets, with potential cooperation on European defence programmes.
The MoU signing occurred at the Dubai Airshow and was led by senior executives from both companies: Ángel Escribano, Executive Chairman of Indra Group; José Vicente de los Mozos, CEO of Indra Group; and Hamad Al-Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group. The parties envision the joint venture’s engineering and industrial capabilities being reinforced by Indra’s extensive industrial footprint in Spain, which is undergoing expansion to meet growing demand. Simultaneously, the collaboration would leverage EDGE’s technology and expertise in loitering munitions.
“This partnership would bring together complementary capabilities, experience, and commercial reach in the loitering munition and smart weapons segments to deliver world-class solutions to our clients.”
“EDGE has built an agile industrial ecosystem capable of responding rapidly to new opportunities and delivering export-ready solutions at speed. Our collaboration with Indra reflects not only a long-standing relationship built on trust and shared ambition, but also a strategic pathway for expanding our presence across European markets through joint innovation and advanced manufacturing.”
The initiative also aims to reinforce the growing industrial and technological partnership between the UAE and Spain, combining Indra’s defence-system expertise and access to European and NATO markets with EDGE’s rapid development model and advanced engineering capabilities to deliver high-performance, export-ready solutions for global customers.
Author’s note: The collaboration seeks to harmonize Indra’s established European footprint with EDGE’s nimble, export-focused engineering approach to accelerate development and deployment of advanced defence systems across Europe.
