The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office announced that it will conduct a sobriety checkpoint beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, and continuing into Friday, December 5.
The purpose of the checkpoint is to identify and deter drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Law enforcement officials encourage all motorists to drive responsibly and ensure that they or anyone they know do not drink and drive.
Sheriff’s deputies will also use the opportunity to enforce seat belt laws and remind residents that designated drivers save lives. Drivers should expect minimal delays and are advised to cooperate with all official instructions at the checkpoint.
"The checkpoint aims to make Berkeley County’s roads safer for everyone," the department stated.
The specific location of the checkpoint was not disclosed but will be within Berkeley County jurisdiction areas with past traffic safety concerns.
