Greenland has deployed two GPS-equipped capsules as part of a large-scale Arctic marine plastic pollution tracking project led by the Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment (PAME) Working Group.
"Tracking the journey of plastics in the Arctic Ocean helps us understand pollution sources, transport routes, and impacts," said a PAME representative.
The capsules contribute to a wider initiative to monitor marine plastic pollution in the Arctic, crucial for protecting vulnerable ecosystems.
Author's summary: Greenland’s GPS-tracked capsules represent a pioneering effort to map Arctic marine plastic pollution movement, enabling better strategies to combat environmental harm.
