OBR calls in cyber expert over botched release of Budget analysis

OBR apologizes for premature Budget report leak

The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) issued an apology after its key Budget report was accidentally leaked online before the official release time. The BBC accessed the PDF report at 11:45 AM on Wednesday by altering a single word in the URL — changing "March" to another term.

In response to the incident, the OBR has enlisted a cybersecurity expert to investigate the breach and prevent similar occurrences in the future.

"We sincerely regret the premature availability of the Budget analysis and are taking immediate steps to secure our release processes," the OBR stated.

The leak highlighted vulnerabilities in the digital distribution system of government reports, prompting a review of security protocols.

This incident underscores the importance of robust cybersecurity measures in managing sensitive government documents to protect the integrity of public information releases.
