Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment marks another successful partnership between Koei Tecmo and Nintendo, delivering unexpected surprises. Having played around two dozen Warriors titles, I believed I knew what to expect—countless battles and endless enemies to defeat.
Yet, this game surprised me by including what feels like the closest experience to a new Star Fox game in nearly ten years, where players can fly and shoot. Essentially, there is a mini Star Fox-style game hidden within this Warriors entry.
Much like its predecessor, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, this game offers an action-packed experience that unfolds the prequel story to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It builds directly on the mechanics and systems introduced in Age of Calamity while weaving in unique elements from Tears of the Kingdom.
The result is one of the strongest Warriors games in years, with a narrative that enriches the lore of Tears of the Kingdom.
Age of Imprisonment explores the Imprisoning War against Ganandorf, events that set the stage for Tears of the Kingdom. The story takes place long ago, focusing on Princess Zelda’s interactions with King Rauru and Queen Sonia.
"Age of Imprisonment essentially does the exact same thing as the previous game, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, in that it’s an action-focused experience that tells the prequel story to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom."
"That’s right, there’s basically a mini Star Fox game in your Warriors game."
This integration revitalizes the Warriors formula with fresh gameplay while maintaining the compelling Zelda universe narrative.
This game innovatively blends classic Warriors action with a surprising Star Fox-like segment, deepening the Zelda lore through a captivating prequel tale.
