Lionsgate has finalized an agreement with Millennium Media to acquire the rights to develop and produce all derivative works of The Expendables franchise. This includes future films, television productions, video games, and immersive experiences.
The studio has also secured worldwide rights to John Rambo, the upcoming sixth installment in the action series. Lionsgate will present the project to buyers at the American Film Market (AFM). Previously, Lionsgate distributed The Expendables in North America and the UK, with the franchise grossing nearly $700 million globally.
Noah Centineo is in final talks to star as the title character in John Rambo. The film will be directed by Jalmari Helander, known for the Sisu franchise, based on a screenplay by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.
Production is planned to begin next year in Thailand. The film is being produced by Millennium Media and Templeton Media, with Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, and Jonathan Yunger as producers. Executive producers include Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk from Bonfire Legend.
