Colleen Dunn, walking her dogs at Nehalem Bay State Park in Oregon, spotted a stranded shark on the sand. Initially mistaking it for a baby great white, she soon realized it was a small salmon shark struggling to breathe during low tide.
Despite feeling nervous, Colleen grabbed the shark by the tail and carefully guided it back into deeper water to save its life. Her two dogs waited patiently throughout the rescue.
“I was essentially nervous about touching it at all. I have three kids so I didn’t wanna put myself in a dangerous position.”
Colleen's fear intensified due to a recent global headline about a man attacked by a shark species once thought harmless. Still, her love for nature and determination to help outweighed her concerns.
“He’s got to get to water. If he dies, at least like I did my part to help him get to the water.”
She even captured the moment on her phone, showing the salmon shark swimming safely away from the shore.
