Oliver Goethe, MP Motorsport driver, shares insights about his progression from Formula 3 to Formula 2, highlighting the importance of small details, learning from setbacks, and his goals for 2025.
“Of course you learn a lot over that time, especially in a Championship that’s a very high level like F3 and F2. There aren’t only high moments. They’re both very competitive Championships so there’s also going to be down moments and those are the ones you learn from the most.”
Goethe emphasizes that both F3 and F2 are not just about success but also about overcoming difficult times, which provide valuable experience.
“I’d say that step from F3 to F2 is the toughest. It’s a trickier car to drive, it’s heavier and more powerful. It’s got a lot more aspects that you need to take into account like with the brakes, bigger tyres and they come into play a lot. Also pitstops, it’s just about adapting to all of it that’s the tricky part.”
The transition involves adapting to more complex car dynamics, including increased weight, power, braking systems, and tire management, as well as the introduction of pitstops.
“I missed the last race in F3 in order to step up to F2, but even then, I still think it was worth doing because it definitely gave me a bit of a head start in learning stuff.”
Starting early in F2, despite missing the final F3 race, helped Goethe gain valuable track experience, easing his adaptation to the new championship.
Although race weekends offer limited track time, Goethe finds prior experience crucial in handling the challenges of F2, which remains a demanding season for him.
Author’s summary: Oliver Goethe reflects on the tough but rewarding leap from F3 to F2, emphasizing learning from difficulties and focusing on finishing 2025 strongly.
